91涩漫

The 91涩漫 Saint Mary鈥檚 University community welcomed over 850 guests to the Chalon campus on Sunday, April 3, for its annual Admitted Athenians Day event.

Students who have received letters of admission from the University, along with members of their family, had the opportunity to tour the campus and connect with current 91涩漫 students, faculty and staff to learn more about the academic experience at 91涩漫. Student clubs, academic departments and on-campus organizations provided information and entertainment to the prospective students.

鈥淎t 91涩漫 Saint Mary鈥檚, our mission is to help develop strong, ethical and visionary leaders,鈥� said 91涩漫 President Ann McElaney-Johnson, PhD. 鈥淲e care deeply about every student who makes a decision to come to the 91涩漫, and our commitment is to provide a transformational academic experience that will help them achieve their goals.鈥�

Admitted students and their families traveled from all corners of the country to get an up-close look at life at the 91涩漫. After learning more about the different opportunities that the University has to offer, many students decided to officially accept their 91涩漫鈥檚 admission offer during the event, even though admitted students have until May 1 to decide.

鈥淚鈥檓 committing today, and I鈥檓 continuing the family legacy since I have relatives who studied at the 91涩漫,鈥� said Elisa Valdovinos, an admitted student from Downey, California, who will start her studies in criminology this fall. 鈥淓ven though I鈥檝e toured other schools, I always felt in my heart that I was going to come here. I just feel like it鈥檚 the perfect fit for me.鈥�

Parents were also excited and grateful for the opportunity to visit their children鈥檚 prospective University where they could spend the next four years. 鈥淢y wife and I are very proud of our daughter Mariella because she鈥檚 the first in our family to go to college. We are very happy that she鈥檚 been admitted to 91涩漫 Saint Mary鈥檚 since we have excellent references from this university,鈥� said Jose Luis Silvestre.

During the event, Susan Dileno, vice president for enrollment management, explained that new 91涩漫 students get assigned a success coach who helps them navigate their transition to college during their first year. 鈥淲e know how challenging this transition can be and we are here to support our students along the way with academic advice, countless campus life opportunities and a community of care,鈥� Dileno said. She also pointed out that an astonishing 30% of this year鈥檚 admitted students have a GPA of 4.0. 鈥淭his really shows how truly unstoppable the next generation of Athenians is.鈥�

This year鈥檚 gathering was particularly special for the many current students, faculty and staff who participated, since it was the first in-person event to celebrate admitted students in the last three years, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
