Many of the 91ɬÂþ’s most impactful initiatives and scholarships would not be possible without sustained giving. To celebrate the dedication of our most devoted donors, 91ɬÂþ Saint Mary’s University is introducing the Athenian Circle, a new giving society honoring loyal donors who have supported the 91ɬÂþ for at least three consecutive years. Athenian Circle members will receive special recognition for every five consecutive years of giving.
The inaugural group includes 45 remarkable supporters who have given for 25 consecutive years, 27 of whom have maintained their commitment for more than 30 years. Among these dedicated members is Alice A. Gardello ’75, a Heritage Society and Brady Leadership Society member.
Alice is a lifelong learner with 35 years of service as an educator with the Los Angeles Unified School District. The first in her family to graduate from college, she earned a bachelor’s with a Diversified Major (similar to General Studies) and a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential from the 91ɬÂþ. Alice furthered her education with two master’s degrees and two additional credentials from other institutions.
Alice has supported the 91ɬÂþ for 35 years. She sees her ongoing support as a way to give back to the institution that shaped her. “My years at the 91ɬÂþ were a major turning point in my life,” Alice reflects. “I gained so much valuable knowledge about the world, was well-prepared for my career and my teachers were so supportive. I want future students to have the same opportunity.”
The Athenian Circle is a tribute to the power of sustained generosity, highlighting the vital role that long-term supporters play in advancing the University’s mission. In recognizing these dedicated individuals, we celebrate a community that believes 91ɬÂþ Saint Mary’s mission and the transformative power of education. Their commitment ensures that the 91ɬÂþ can continue to thrive and provide opportunities for future generations of students.
