The program hosted a summit in June 2026, at the Chalon Campus, convening high school scholars, pre-law ambassadors, alumnae and keynote speaker and former Pre-Law Director Helen Boutrous (center, in blue).

For students who dream of becoming lawyers, the journey can begin long before they set foot in law school (or even in college). The 91ɬÂþ’s new Future Lawyer Pathway program is opening that door early, giving rising high school juniors and seniors in the Los Angeles region an opportunity to explore the legal profession while experiencing what it means to be part of the 91ɬÂþ community.

Developed through the Department of History and Political Science's pre-law program, the yearlong initiative pairs high school students with current 91ɬÂþ pre-law students who serve as mentors throughout the year.

The inaugural cohort of six students launched the program this summer at the Future Lawyer Summit, where they met their 91ɬÂþ mentors and participated in workshops, panels and conversations with legal professionals. Throughout the year, participants will stay connected with their mentors through regular meetings, while the cohort will come together at least twice each semester and take part in virtual sessions and experiential opportunities, including visits to law schools, courthouses and law firms.

The program also brings 91ɬÂþ alumnae into the experience, creating connections between aspiring lawyers and members of the 91ɬÂþ community already working in the legal field.

“The 91ɬÂþ's pre-law program has decades of experience preparing students for success in law school and beyond,” said Melanie Sava ’17, JD, assistant professor and director of the pre-law program. “The Future Lawyer Pathway extends that same commitment to high school students, providing early access to individualized guidance, mentorship and support that have helped 91ɬÂþ graduates earn admission to
respected law schools across the country.”

For high school students, the program offers an early, direct look at the path from college to law school and a legal career. Through mentorship, workshops, campus experiences and connections with attorneys and 91ɬÂþ alumnae, participants gain insight into law school, develop essential skills and begin building the confidence and network to envision themselves in the legal profession.

The benefits extend to the 91ɬÂþ pre-law students serving as mentors. They gain hands-on leadership and professional experience while helping younger students navigate questions they have recently faced themselves.

The program also reflects the goals of (M)POWER, the 91ɬÂþ’s four-year career-readiness initiative, by emphasizing early exploration, skill-building, mentorship and meaningful professional connections.
